Welcome to Esther Seky

Registered Psychodynamic Psychotherapist

Esther Seky MSc, PG Dip, BSc

I am a registered and practicing Psychodynamic/Psychoanalytic Psychotherapist offering evidence-based psychotherapeutic interventions. I have training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and mentalization based therapy (MBT) approaches which I draw upon in my practice.

Psychodynamic psychotherapy focuses on unconscious thoughts and feelings that determine behavior and various mood states, exploring the impact of early and current relationships on a person’s sense of self and wellbeing. The intervention also utilizes the interaction between client and therapist so to help the client understand patterns in all of their relationships.

Long-standing issues that are repetitive and significantly interfering with life can be treated with psychodynamic psychotherapy and psychoanalysis. Examples of these include repeatedly getting into unsatisfying relationships, chronic failure to achieve goals and reach one’s potential, a long history of anxiety and depression, or a feeling that one cannot be themselves or act spontaneously.

I offer both in-person and remote therapy, offering both brief solution focused psychotherapy and long-term psychotherapy. I welcome all enquiries regardless of race, gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation.

I am also able to work with people experiencing acute mental health crisis. I have worked in the NHS for over 10 years and worked with a private hospital for 3 years in the treatment of adults with neurotic and psychotic problems, as well as addiction, and all this vast experience informs my clinical practice.

How I Work

Consultation and Tailored Interventions

Every individual is exactly that, and exposure to similar or even identical situations can affect people differently. I respect and listen to the individuality of the person before me, working together to understand how the family, friends, educational institutions and society at large have contributed to your life experience.

Adult mental health problems can have a developmental aspect to them, as well as transgenerational aspects. Understanding the issues you face will involve us understanding how your past affects your present so to understand you and the changes that may be beneficial for your current life experience.
